Steve is a writer and documentary filmmaker based in New Haven. He spent the past 21 months, since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, as an embedded journalist in a global voluntary group, Pivot Projects, which was launched at the beginning of the crisis with the goal of awakening people to the need to pivot to more sustainable pathways and to help communities do so. Through his involvement with the group, he has produced two works of journalism. One, A River Speaks, is a 34-minute documentary that explores humanity’s relationship with rivers (focusing on Connecticut’s Mill River). The other is his new book, The Pivot: Addressing Global Problems Through Local Action, which follows the journey of Pivot Projects, exploring the noble impulse of human beings to pull together during a crisis and do something about it.
