SUMMARY:Special Event: "Stone Soup" Open Mic Night at The Market
DESCRIPTION:A collaborative open mic! \nThe story of stone soup is about the beauty of collaboration… everyone’s individual ingredients could taste much better when combined and cooked together in one big soup. Open mics are amazing for every artist getting their sole moment of glory\, but they could become a special space of spontaneous\, shared art if we mesh our art into others. \nBasically\, instead of everyone quietly sitting and snapping and waiting their turns\, you get up and integrate your own words\, sounds\, movements\, art\, etc if you feel compelled and inspired to by the person currently performing. It is a chance within an open environment to improvise and jam with many people\, to freely create with strangers. \nThis special Stone Soup Open Mic The Market is Sunday\, November 9\, from 4:00-6:00 pm\, so mark your calendars and plan to join us!

SUMMARY:Nancy Moore: Women and Other Animals | Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:On display in The Meetinghouse Gallery \nWomen and Other Animals\nPaintings by Nancy Moore\nSeptember 7 – October 12\, 2025\n\nOpening Reception\nAn opening reception will be held September 7\, 2025 from 2-4 pm.\nThe Gallery is open Tuesdays – Sundays 8:00 am – 4:00 pm for viewing. (Closed Mondays). \n  \n  \nArtist’s Biography\nThere are many ways to unlock parts of ourselves. For Nancy Moore\, the key arrived while working as a book editor (her profession for 38 years)\, in the form of a deluxe 96-pack of Crayola crayons she treated herself to in a moment of crazy. She opened the lid\, and the scent transported her to the cool green linoleum floor of her childhood playroom\, where she spent hours blissfully imagining and drawing. Those crayons\, along with watercolor and pencil\, led Moore to create her first painting as an adult: a chameleon titled “Self-Portrait\,” the idea being that women are continually shedding and growing new emotional and intellectual skin as they adapt to the myriad roles they assume. That painting\, the first one to sell in her first exhibition\, was all the incentive Moore needed to keep painting as she juggled job and family. \nAs time passed\, Moore’s chameleons began sporting women’s heads and hands\, eventually becoming fully realized women. This direction led to her ongoing series of “Unconventional Women.” According to Moore: “I feel like I’ve tapped into a rich vein of material that I’ll be mining for a long time to come. These women keep appearing in my head\, whispering to my heart\, and dancing onto the paper—I’m trying my best to keep up with them. At this point\, I feel like I’m creating the community of women I want to be surrounded with.” The artist also continues to paint animals and botanica\, and returning to that well of inspiration is an act of renewal for her. \nMoore paints predominantly on large slices of beautiful archival paper\, choosing to work with watercolor\, graphite\, gouache\, metallic paint\, colored pencil\, wax crayon\, and wood burner. Her themes include transformation\, ethnography\, design\, shape-shifting\, gender identity\, evolution\, fashion\, and creation myth. \nThe artist is self-taught and proud of that\, reveling in the distortion of body proportions and perspective in her work. The goal here is to create narratives from emotion and instinct\, hoping to translate what bubbles up in her mind\, through her hand\, and onto the paper. \nIn 2005\, Moore was invited to exhibit her paintings of the animal world at the opening of the Environmental Sciences Center at Yale University’s Peabody Museum. What was supposed to be a 3-week-long exhibition ended up running for one year. Her scope has continued to expand\, with work widely exhibited in galleries\, museums\, and other public institutions. Her paintings also hang in many private homes\, from Vermont to California. \n  \nTo see more of Nancy Moore’s work: \n\nVisit her website: www.nancymooreart.com\nFollow her on Instagram: #nancymooreart\nContact her: nancymooreart@gmail.com\n\nAll of Moore’s work is also available as signed\, limited-edition giclée prints \n

SUMMARY:Linda Pickwick: Still Life in Watercolors
DESCRIPTION:On display in The Meetinghouse Gallery \nStill Life in Watercolors\nWatercolor Paintings by Linda Pickwick\n  \nJuly 6 – August 31\, 2025\nAn opening reception will be held Sunday\, July 6\, 2025 from 2-4 pm. \nThe Gallery is open Tuesdays – Sundays 8:00 am – 4:00 pm for viewing. (Closed Mondays). \n  \n  \nArtist’s Biography\nLinda Pickwick is a lifelong artist based in Newton\, Connecticut. Her passion for art began early\, with a love for drawing that blossomed during her school years. In high school and college\, foundational art classes sparked a special interest in portraiture\, setting the stage for her creative pursuits. \nAfter graduating and spending several years in the workforce\, Linda married and started a family. As her children grew older\, she returned to art with renewed enthusiasm. Sharing a love for antiques with her husband\, she developed a deep interest in 19th-century decorative arts. Exploring this style\, she began experimenting with Theorem painting\, primitive folk art\, and decorative painting on wood and tin—accessible and inspiring mediums that fueled her creativity. \nLinda became an active member of the National Society of Decorative Painting and participated in craft fairs\, selling her hand-painted wooden pieces. In 1993\, her work received national recognition when she won first place in a painting competition hosted by Decorative Woodcrafts\, a Better Homes and Gardens publication. \nHer artistic journey evolved from acrylics on canvas to the expressive medium of watercolor. Studying under Carol Hubbard\, A.W.S.\, of Monroe\, Connecticut\, Linda embraced a layered watercolor technique that lends depth and vibrancy to her work. She has since exhibited in local art shows\, earning multiple awards for her paintings. \nIn addition to her studio work\, Linda has also shared her talents through faux painting\, including murals and trompe l’oeil\, transforming private homes with her artistic touch. \nToday\, she continues to paint in both acrylic and watercolor\, always eager to begin her next creative endeavor.

SUMMARY:Rochambeau - America’s Forgotten French Founding Father - with the Ridgefield Historical Society
DESCRIPTION:Presented in collaboration with The Ridgefield Historical Society \n\nThe Ridgefield Historical Society and The Meetinghouse in Ridgebury proudly present historian Keith Marshall Jones III who will give the illustrated presentation\, Rochambeau – America’s Forgotten French Founding Father\, on Tuesday\, July 1\, 2025\, at 6:30pm at The Meetinghouse at 602 Ridgebury Road\, Ridgefield\, CT. Held in honor of the 300th anniversary of Rochambeau’s birth (July 1\, 1725)\, the presentation will be followed by a reception. \nTickets are limited\, non-refundable\, and expected to sell out quickly. Admission is $15 for members of the Ridgefield Historical Society and The Meetinghouse in Ridgebury\, and $20 for those who aren’t yet members. \nPurchase Tickets Here\n  \nOn July 1\, 1781\, French Lieutenant General Jean-Baptiste-Donatien de Vimeur\, Comte de Rochambeau\, celebrated his 56th birthday right here in Ridgefield. While his superbly equipped and immaculately clad 4\,700-man army camped in Ridgebury Parish\, en route to Yorktown to join General George Washington’s forces and secure American independence\, the Comte dined at Ensign Samuel Keeler’s nearby tavern. The following morning\, one of his regimental chaplains conducted Connecticut’s first inland Catholic Mass. \nJoin Keith Marshall Jones III on July 1 to commemorate Rochambeau’s birthday visit and explore the story of his army’s two-day stay in Ridgefield. Learn why French money\, arms\, and manpower paved the way for American independence. Discover how it was Rochambeau\, not General George Washington\, who devised the bold stale-mate-breaking strategy that led to the decisive victory at Yorktown\, and how he later narrowly escaped the guillotine during the French Revolution as thanks for his efforts. \n\nKeith Marshall Jones III\, Founding President of the Ridgefield Historical Society\, is the author of THE BATTLE OF RIDGEFIELD\, Benedict Arnold\, the Patriot Militia and the Surprising 1777 Battle that Galvanized Revolutionary Connecticut (2024). Other books include: JOHN LAURANCE\, the Immigrant Founding Father America Never Knew (awarded the American Philosophical Society’s 2019 “Publication of the Year”); CONGRESS AS MY GOVERNMENT\, Chief Justice John Marshall in the War for Independence (2008); Farmers Against the Crown (2002); and The Farms of Farmingville (2001). He lives in New York City and Connecticut. \nFor more information contact: info@ridgfieldhistoricalsociety.org or 203-438-5821

(Closed Mondays). \n  \n  \nArtist’s Statement\nI’m Angela MacManus\, a Ridgefield resident who’s the photographer and artist behind ‘by Angela Jane™ ’ which is the name I use for my artwork and online presence. \nI purely focus on beautiful pieces of art and gifts for your home or office\, where everything is either photographed by me on my travels around the world\, painted\, digitally created\, or lovingly handcrafted\, in my Ridgefield Connecticut studio. \nFor this show I have selected one genre – photography – and have picked a small selection showing varied landscapes\, seascapes\, and animals from my travels in the US\, Europe\, and UK. \nThe images on display range from large\, limited edition\, statement panoramic landscapes to smaller\, open edition\, cute animal scenes – each with its own personal (to me) story. \nI hope you like looking at photographs as much as I do\, and that they evoke calming\, happy memories and emotions for you too… \n…hearing your stories and how you connect to my images\, for me\, is what makes it all worthwhile. \nEnjoy the show! \n  \nTo view more of Angela Jane’s work or contact her; \n\nVisit her website  https://byangelajane.com/\nFollow her on Instagram  https://www.instagram.com/byangelajane\nFollow her on Facebook  https://www.facebook.com/byAngelaJaneUSA
