SUMMARY:Bill Gore: The Saugatuck Cosmology | Art Show
DESCRIPTION:On display in The Meetinghouse Gallery \nThe Saugatuck Cosmology\nArtwork by Bill Gore\nSeptember 6 – October 11\, 2026\n  \nOpening Reception:\nSunday\, September 6\, 2026 from 2-4 pm in the downstairs gallery.\nThe Gallery is open Tuesdays – Sundays 8:00 am – 4:00 pm for viewing. (Closed Mondays). \n  \nArtist’s Statement\nOver time the intelligence of the New England landscape has taken hold of my image making. I photograph the land and layer images in a virtual studio to search for connections between literal representation\, memory\, and imagination. \nI began by photographing the nearby Saugatuck River valley during numerous walks along the banks and over the woodland trails. The camera images provided a real-time record of this intersection of nature and man\, and I turned to digital methods as an avenue into deep-time explorations of the “more-than-human” intelligence of the river. The images that the camera saw passed into virtual space\, something like a digital bardo\, and mixed with the abstract expression of memory and sensory experience. From my process came a collection of layered photographs that gave visual form to my perceptions of the democratic life-forces of the waters that nurture all that lives along the riverbanks. \n

SUMMARY:Wisdom After Hours: Be a Kind Human | A Conversation with Bob Martinsen
DESCRIPTION:At the heart of it all is a simple but urgent invitation: Be a Kind Human. \nThis is the theme of our new Wisdom After Hours series\, beginning Sunday\, October 11\, at 2:00 p.m. in Shield’s Hall. Each month\, we will welcome thoughtful leaders from across generations and disciplines to share the wisdom they have gathered along the way. \nOur inaugural guest will be Bob Martinsen\, who\, at 92 years young\, will reflect on the Four Essential Things that have guided his life and leadership—including the enduring importance of integrity. Come ready for a meaningful conversation\, an opportunity to learn from a remarkable life and\, perhaps\, a little wisdom to carry into your own. \nPlease register at the link below so we can set up accordingly. \nRegister Here\n  \n\nWisdom After Hours\nConversations on Being a Kind Human \nBe a kind human. Four simple words. But what does that look like? What does it mean to be earth-formed\, kin to one another\, compassionate by nature? \nThis season’s Wisdom After Hours is where we test that claim out loud\, in person\, after the workday ends. One Sunday afternoon a month\, a local leader joins us — not as an expert with answers\, but as a fellow traveler through the same three movements that quietly organize every formed life: \n\nBeing — Who are we\, before what we do or achieve?\nBelonging — Whose are we\, and how do our wounds and our wondering become the ground of wholeness?\nBecoming — What is life asking of us now\, and what might we have to let go of to answer it?\n\nThese aren’t abstractions. They’re the questions our guests have actually lived — in classrooms\, clinics\, city hall\, small businesses\, sanctuaries — wherever leading well has meant crossing a threshold that couldn’t be crossed by working harder or knowing more. \n

SUMMARY:Poets & Prophets - A Formational Journey
DESCRIPTION:The Meetinghouse | Shields Hall Gallery – 602 Ridgebury Road\, Ridgefield\, CT\nStarts October 9\, 2026—10:30am (for full schedule see Journey Itinerary) \nFacilitated by Deborah Rundlett and Anne Elmendorf\nRSVP Deborah@Meetinghouse.life\n  \nDo you feel it? \nAn inescapable sense that you can no longer simply carry on as before. A quiet insistence that the wisdom you’ve spent a lifetime gathering is meant for something more than the roles that have defined you\, even the roles that you have loved? \nThis feeling rarely arrives all at once. More often it gathers slowly: the shape of your days shifting\, the weight of leadership easing\, the question of what comes next after decades of building and proving—and beneath it\, a hunger to give back in ways that matter differently now. \nEvery life reaches a moment when the work that once organized everything is no longer enough to organize everything. When competence and career alone cannot carry the weight of what’s being asked next. When the hunger presses for another way of being. This is not a stepping away—it is a threshold. \nPoets & Prophets is for those beginning to look past the shape of their life as it has been to risk letting go in order to step into a deeper way of being\, belonging\, and becoming. \n  \nPoet and Prophet are not roles or personality types. They are capacities of the soul. \n\nThe Poet listens beneath the noise—reclaiming memory\, meaning\, and identity beneath decades of performance and productivity.\nThe Prophet discerns misalignment and speaks courageously on behalf of what wants to be born—calling us toward coherence\, justice\, and wholeness\, even now\, even here.\n\nHeld together\, they root your gathered experience in depth and whatever comes next in imagination and responsibility. \nAcross a fall season of formation\, this cohort will guide you through three inner postures for crossing well—humility\, wisdom\, and integrity—and open with a guided threshold practice: naming what feels unfinished\, what no longer needs carrying\, and what is quietly insistent as you consider how to give back. \nWelcome to the path of Poets & Prophets. The crossing has already begun. \nThe Meetinghouse | Shields Hall Gallery – 602 Ridgebury Road\, Ridgefield\, CT\nStarts October 9\, 2026—10:30am (for full schedule see Journey Itinerary) \nFacilitated by Deborah Rundlett and Anne Elmendorf\nRSVP Deborah@Meetinghouse.life

SUMMARY:Everything Under the Sun: Cyanotype and Lumen Prints by Fruma Markowitz
DESCRIPTION:On display in The Meetinghouse Gallery \nEverything Under the Sun: Cyanotype and Lumen Prints by Fruma Markowitz\nOctober 18 – November 22\, 2026\n  \nOpening Reception:\nSunday\, October 18\, 2026 from 2-4 pm in the downstairs gallery.\nThe Gallery is open Tuesdays – Sundays 8:00 am – 4:00 pm for viewing. (Closed Mondays). \n  \nArtist’s Statement\nEverything Under The Sun is my first solo show at The Meetinghouse. I’m showing a collection of cyanotype and lumen prints\, most of which were created during my 2022 Artist Residency at the Weir Farm National Park\, in Wilton\, CT.  While there\, I created a visual diary by making one lumen print per day\, and a collection of cyanotype prints using the many native wildflowers and invasive plants growing at the farm. I also photographed John Weir’s barn studio and home\, with the intention of one day creating a hand-made artist book\, combining his work and mine as two artists having a relationship engaged with an identical landscape\, albeit separated by both process and time. Everything Under The Sun is the commencement of this work. It is the ecological foundation upon which more complex images will follow. \n\n \n \n \n \n #20\n \n \n \n \n \n #16\n \n \n \n \n \n #10\n \n \n \n \n \n #2\n \n \n \nWhat are you looking at? \nCyanotype is a non-toxic photographic process that uses a mixture of two iron salts\, potassium ferricyanide and ferric ammonium citrate\, to create an emulsion that is sensitive to UV light. The prints are made by laying objects\, in this case botanical cuttings\, on paper painted with the cyanotype solution\, covered with a sheet of glass\, and placed in the sun for about 10-15 minutes. They are then washed in water\, dried\, and the results are what you see here. \nLumen prints are made in a similar fashion\, but rather than mixing any chemicals\, the artist uses old-fashioned analog black and white darkroom paper as the substrate. Botanicals are laid on the paper and held in place with the same sheet of glass\, exposed in the sun\, resulting in very colorful and unexpected patterns. The variation in color is caused by the way a certain brand of darkroom paper has been manufactured\, combined with the natural chemicals secreted by the botanic cuttings when they heat up in the sun. \n  \nAbout the Artist \nFruma Markowitz’s photography practice focuses on historical\, experimental\, and hand-made processes\, with an emphasis on cyanotype and lumen photography\, textile-based mixed-media collage\, and\, most recently\, hand-made artist photobooks. Family life\, womanhood\, cultural histories with shared legacies\, and environmental concerns are where she mostly draws inspiration for making images. \nFruma exhibits her work in local galleries near her home base in Black Rock\, CT\, as well as in national and international venues.  Locally she belongs to the Artists’ Collective of Westport and New England Bookmakers Association. She has won recognition for her work from the Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers as well as full-portfolio publication and review of her work in DekUnu Arts (2023)\, FLOAT Magazine (2024)\, and Lenscratch (Oct. 2024). In July 2025\, she won the Arthur Griffin Legacy Award at the Griffin Museum Juried Members Exhibition. \nFruma has taught photography to women in crisis at Project Return Home in Westport and to cancer survivors at The Creative Center in NYC\, and\, more recently\, at Five Points Art Center and her private home studio. In July\, 2025\, Fruma led two workshops at the Experimental PhotoFest in Barcelona\, Spain. \nFruma was a member of the first graduating class (1984) at the Bezalel Academy of Art & Design in Jerusalem\, Israel\, where she earned a BFA in photography and was the recipient of the Agfa Award\, the Jerusalem Student Award and numerous merit scholarships.

SUMMARY:Poetry Reading to Benefit Nepal in the Historic Meetinghouse
DESCRIPTION:Poetry Reading to Benefit Nepal\nSunday\, October 25\, 2026 at 2:00 pm\nIn the Historic Meetinghouse\n  \nA noisy world. And tragic. Bombs and mobs and politics. And now the Himalayas glowering over Nepal have added to the noise and tragedy. A glacier cracked open in late August sending snow and clogging mud avalanching down the gorges …killing and trapping 8\,000 unwarned people. 8\,000 people. Dead. Missing. Another sad terror to break the hearts of our planet. \nWhat can I do? What can you do? Well\, let us do something. On Sunday\, October 25th at 2:00 p.m.\, in the Congregational Meeting House (Ridgebury Road and George Washington Highway) a trio of Ridgefield poets will present a fund-raiser reading in the hope that poems that might offer a comfort and a hope that the poems’s comfort will wind around the world and let our fellow-dwellers on the planet in Nepal know that they are on our minds and in our hoping hearts to help \nRidgefield Poet Laureate Emerita Barb Jennes\, Artist / Poet Martha Talburt\, and Ridgefield Poet Laureate Ira Joe Fisher will share their verses in a hope you’ll share your hearts to ease the pain in Nepal. \nAdmission is your kind contribution of hope. Donations can be made at the link below. \nDonate Here
