Jon Gordon, a physician and photographer from Bethel, Connecticut, has been capturing
images of nature for many years. He first experimented with photography in high school.
Stationed in Taiwan during the Viet Nam War, he photographed the stark and haunting
countryside in black and white. Back in the states, he turned to color photography,
favoring a Nikon F-100 camera and Ektachrome EVS 100 slide film. He now works
exclusively in digital capture, utilizing a Sony A7R3 camera and an Epson P800 printer.
Jon has studied with many of the leading nature photographers including Art Wolfe, John
Shaw, David Muench, David Middleton, Joe Van Os, Len LaRue, and Joe and Mary Ann
McDonald, and he has traveled widely in search of the vibrant colors, textures and
patterns evident in his photographs.
His photographs are held in several private collections and have been exhibited
throughout Connecticut at various venues including the Minor Memorial Library in
Roxbury, the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, the Ridgefield Library, the White Silo Farm and
Winery in Sherman, The Carriage barn in New Canaan, the Howard Whittemore
Memorial Library in Naugatuck, The Sherman Jewish Community Center, the Fairfield
Museum and Danbury Hospital. In 2010, two of Jon’s photos were selected in
competition for publication by the North American Nature Photographers Association
(NANPA) and appeared in Currents, NANPA’s magazine.
About his photography Jon says, “I strive for a personal vision of reality, preferring to
photograph nature scenes because in them I discover a beauty that will endure beyond our
lifetimes.”
Jon prints a limited number of each of his photographs and offers them mounted, matted
and framed (all archival materials) or unframed and unmounted.
