A Question for Our Times
Why would I go to church?
While we can’t answer that question for all churches, we can answer it for the Ridgebury Congregational Church (RCC), who has stewarded this historic campus since 1760.
RCC is a place to come together and gather as a spiritual community. You might know us as the historic white church on the corner, but we’ve always been so much more. We are a place to reconnect with soul, that you might be restored and renewed.
Here at RCC we offer:
- Community and Belonging, in response to the epidemic of loneliness that has permeated our society,
- Spiritual Growth through opportunities for personal reflection, learning about scripture, and deepening one’s faith,
- Fellowship and Encouragement on your spiritual journey,
- Service to Others through opportunities to volunteer and serve the community,
- Guidance and Support in navigating life challenges and making important decisions.
Three things you should know about us
We are small yet strong
Our aim is not to grow the congregation, but to serve as critical yeast toward the flourishing of our community and beyond.
We are open and affirming
In celebration of the beauty and uniqueness of each expression of God’s diverse family, we welcome all to share in the life, leadership, ministry, fellowship, worship, sacraments, responsibilities, and blessings of participation in our congregation. Therefore, no matter who you are, regardless of age, economic status, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, physical or mental ability, sexual orientation, or where you are in life’s journey, you are welcome in Ridgebury Congregational Church, an Open and Affirming Congregation.
We are historic and relevant
We are committed to exploring contemporary expressions of faith and service in the world for the sake of people and planet.
Strengthen The Church
Worship
Worship is at the center of our shared life at RCC. Our way of gathering is simple in keeping with our Congregational roots, yet relevant to our lives today.
- Sunday Worship
Weekly at 10am in the historic Meetinghouse, with communion served typically on the first Sunday of the month.
- The Liturgical Year
Special services tied to the seasons of the church year are offered: Advent, Christmas Eve, Epiphany, Baptism of Our Lord, Transfiguration, Ash Wednesday, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, All Souls & Saints, and Reign of God. Please check the calendar for dates and times.
- Children in Worship
We are committed to the full inclusion of children in worship, including the participation in the Lord’s Supper. - Music
Under the guidance of our Music Director, seasonal choirs, instrumentalists, and soloists deepen our experience of worship.
Discipleship
At RCC, we look to the earthly journey of Jesus as a model for how we are to grow up in Christ. Through this formational journey, we are supported as we grow up into spiritual maturity. Our formational journey is best understood by likening it to human development in which we move through different stages, identified as infancy, childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, and ultimately adulthood. Each stage presents us with opportunities to surrender to needed levels of transformation, each stage building upon the next.
The Life Journey
The Ridgebury Congregational Church is committed to the nurture and care of souls through the whole of life’s journey. In addition to liturgical worship, we offer covenant services to mark this journey through life. These services include:
- Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism is available to infants, children and adults. Preparation with the pastor is required as we take seriously our commitment as a community of faith to nurture new disciples. - Discipleship
Discipleship invites us on a journey of growing up in Christ. - Marriage
RCC celebrates and blesses marriages in accordance with civil and church law. As an open and affirming congregation, we honor all couples seeking to be married. Advance planning of six to twelve months is important to allow for pre-marital counseling requirements and planning of the service. - Communion for Shut Ins and those Hospitalized
When illness or other disability prevents you or a member of your family from attending worship, we are glad to bring communion. - Funeral and Memorial Services
Funeral and Memorial Services in the Meetinghouse and/or at the interment site are provided for members and friends. Please contact the pastor directly
