Wisdom After Hours: Be a Kind Human | A Conversation with Bob Martinsen

At the heart of it all is a simple but urgent invitation: Be a Kind Human.
This is the theme of our new Wisdom After Hours series, beginning Sunday, October 11, at 2:00 p.m. in Shield’s Hall. Each month, we will welcome thoughtful leaders from across generations and disciplines to share the wisdom they have gathered along the way.
Our inaugural guest will be Bob Martinsen, who, at 92 years young, will reflect on the Four Essential Things that have guided his life and leadership—including the enduring importance of integrity. Come ready for a meaningful conversation, an opportunity to learn from a remarkable life and, perhaps, a little wisdom to carry into your own.

Wisdom After Hours
Conversations on Being a Kind Human
Be a kind human. Four simple words. But what does that look like? What does it mean to be earth-formed, kin to one another, compassionate by nature?
This season’s Wisdom After Hours is where we test that claim out loud, in person, after the workday ends. One Sunday afternoon a month, a local leader joins us — not as an expert with answers, but as a fellow traveler through the same three movements that quietly organize every formed life:
- Being — Who are we, before what we do or achieve?
- Belonging — Whose are we, and how do our wounds and our wondering become the ground of wholeness?
- Becoming — What is life asking of us now, and what might we have to let go of to answer it?
These aren’t abstractions. They’re the questions our guests have actually lived — in classrooms, clinics, city hall, small businesses, sanctuaries — wherever leading well has meant crossing a threshold that couldn’t be crossed by working harder or knowing more.
