About Jan Prentice

Jan Prentice Bio
Jan Prentice’s artwork is deeply rooted in the representational art tradition. She studied drawing and painting at Paier College of Art, the Lyme Academy of Art, and the New York Botanical Garden where she earned a certificate in botanical illustration. She is equally happy working in colored pencils or oil paint and birds are her favorite subjects.
Jan is a founding member and long-time instructor at the Natural Science Illustration program of the Yale Peabody Museum. She is a former Artist-in-Resident at Big Cypress National Preserve, Ochopee, Florida and at the Huyck Preserve, Rensselaerville, NY. She has exhibited her work in the internationally recognized “Birds in Art” exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum (Wassau, WI), the International Marine Art Exhibition at the Mystic Seaport Museum Art Gallery (Mystic, CT), the New York State Museum (Albany, NY), as well as many other national and regional venues. Her work is in the permanent collection of the National Park Service and the New York State Museum. She is represented by Spectrum Gallery, Centerbrook, CT and is a member of the New Haven Paint and Clay Club, the Lyme Art Association, and the Madison Art Association.

About Whitney Prentice
Whitney Prentice Bio
Whitney Prentice is a fine artist whose primary interest is painting and drawing the figure. He has shown work widely including at the Dahesh Museum, New York, NY, The New Britain Museum of American Art, New Britain, CT, Spectrum Gallery, Centerbrook, CT, Lyme Art Association, City Wide Open Studios, New Haven, and many others. He was an award recipient in the Hudson Valley Art Association’s 88th annual exhibition in 2021. He teaches drawing and painting at Paier College, Bridgeport, CT; and at Gateway Community College, New Haven, CT; and has taught at Silvermine Arts Center, New Canaan, CT. He and his wife (and fellow artist) Jan reside in Branford, CT where they both enjoy painting the landscape en plein air.
Whitney earned his MFA at the Graduate School of Figurative Art of the New York Academy of Art. He also studied at Paier College of Art (where he was awarded the Jay Verbitus Memorial Award) and at the Lyme Academy of Art.

About Priscilla Prentice
Priscilla Prentice Bio
Priscilla Prentice attended the Rhode Island School of Design, earning a BFA in Illustration. When not painting, she works as a UX/UI designer, graphic designer, and illustrator. Her past experience includes animation and building 3D environments for video games. Ms. Prentice works in a variety of mediums including acrylic, water mixable oil paint, watercolor, and digital media. Prentice was awarded 2nd place at the Ridgefield Guild of Artists Annual Juried Show 2012, and was a selected exhibitor at the New Haven Paint and Clay Annual Juried Show 2011.
Priscilla Prentice Artist Statement
I create evocative environments that capture a mood of a place or time period. I hope to inspire you as a viewer to ask questions. Where is this space? Who resides here? What stories happen here? I use repeating shapes and colors to build the scene and to direct the viewer to experience the surroundings.
