Hello everyone!
The first two months as the Meetinghouse’s Catalyst for Community Events have been super busy and super rewarding! From the continued development of the community garden, to a Summerween spectacle, to our first ever short-film showing, June has been a powerful month, and I look forward to the next half of the summer!
In early June, we hosted Eliza Rose, who many of you may recognize from her time working at the Market at the Meetinghouse! In Shield’s Hall, Eliza projected her original short film titled “Rewilding” to an intimate group over a cheese charcuterie board in the humid early summer evening. The film followed two years worth of adventures through America, featuring raw, emotional footage of the Shenandoah mountains, Wisconsin ranges, beautiful landscapes, and more. Featuring an original score, and overdubbed by lovely, insightful, and reflective poetry – steeped in natural themes and personal reflection – Eliza’s film encapsulated her life, her story, and the deep inner growth recorded in two years of traveling and working in environmental protection and education. Next, the construction of a community garden continues! Currently, we are awaiting the arrival of wood chips to fill in the walkways. We are also making our plans for the purchase and construction of the fencing – as soon as the woodchip is delivered and organized and soil and compost and assembled, the fencing will go up, and we will be one step closer to the formation of the community garden! I have attached an image of the plans for the garden for your information, as well as a little bunny I saw hanging out inside.

On June 27th, we hosted the rock band Lahnah on tour from Philly in Shield’s Hall for a “Summerween” event! Summerween is an informal holiday, combining summertime activities with the whimsy and style of Halloween festivities. At the Meetinghouse, 35+ attendees dressed in their Halloween best, costumes of all sorts ranging from the Mad Hatter to Little Red Riding Hood – volunteers and I decorated the hall with all the Halloween accoutrements we could gather. The local band XUR and DJ Arf Hudson, joined by Bird Cagee from New Jersey performed to support the touring band.

Join Frontega from Chicago for an evening of live emo music at the Meetinghouse! Featuring XUR, Death Valley Sun Troopers, and Dulcit, come dance and have a good time!
Doors at 6pm, music at 6:30pm. $10 online or $12 at the door.
